Purpose

An Increment is the output of a Sprint: the latest version of the working software. In other words, an Increment is the sum of all completed Product Backlog items at the end of a Sprint.

Each Increment must be “Done”, which means it should be potentially releasable/shippable and usable by the end user. The Product Owner may or may not release a certain Increment, but it should be releasable nevertheless.

Increments are used to generate feedback, which is the basis for adaptation. It's also possible to release some of the Increments and generate early benefits.

Scaling

When multiple teams are working on the same product, each team produces a “Done” Increment. The Increments will be combined and create “one” Integrated Increment for the project.
